2027 Election: APC Launches Fresh Moves to Pull 5 Govs, Full List Emerges

According to a NewsVista reporter, Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is making bold moves to lure at least five more state governors from opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The wave of defections, which recently saw Delta leaders like Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa cross party lines, may be just the beginning. APC’s national vice-chairman for the South East, Ijeoma Arodiogbu, told The Punch that the party is actively in talks with governors from Bayelsa, Rivers, Plateau, Kano, and either Abia or Enugu.

In Bayelsa, insiders claim Governor Douye Diri has already started sounding out lawmakers about a possible switch. In Rivers, President Tinubu is reportedly pressuring Governor Siminalayi Fubara to jump ship amid ongoing political tensions. Plateau’s Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Kano’s Abba Yusuf are also rumored to be on APC’s radar, with the latter possibly following his mentor Rabiu Kwankwaso if he defects.

While Abia’s Alex Otti and Enugu’s Peter Mbah haven’t declared any moves, both have publicly praised President Tinubu’s economic and security policies—fueling speculation about their future political leanings.

Opposition parties like the PDP, Labour Party, and NNPP have accused the APC of trying to turn Nigeria into a one-party state. But insiders say the ruling party is just getting started.
