According to a NewsVista reporter, the South-South zone of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has thrown its full weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, endorsing him as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
The endorsement was announced at a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held in Benin City, Edo State, on Saturday, July 5. Party leaders from across the region also backed four serving governors for a second term under the APC platform.
The governors endorsed are:
-
Bassey Edet Otu – Cross River
-
Monday Okpebholo – Edo
-
Sheriff Oborevwori – Delta
-
Umo Bassey Eno – Akwa Ibom
Oborevwori and Eno, both former PDP members, recently defected to the APC, strengthening the party’s grip in the South-South.
The resolution was read by APC National Vice Chairman (South-South), Chief Victor Giadom, and endorsed by top party figures including Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who presided over the session.
Meanwhile, at the APC national summit in Abuja, Akpabio also led National Assembly leaders in a unanimous motion endorsing Tinubu for re-election, praising the president’s performance amid economic challenges.
Governor Hope Uzodimma, chairman of the APC Governors Forum, confirmed the governors’ united support for Tinubu’s 2027 bid, calling it a decision for continuity and stability.
