24 Hours After Declaring Manhunt, Military Announces All 17 Escaping Terrorists Killed or Captured

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have announced the successful conclusion of a 24-hour manhunt, killing or capturing all 17 Palestinian operatives who attempted to escape from a Hamas tunnel in southern Gaza. The operation ended on Sunday, November 23, 2025, after a coordinated response across eastern Rafah.

The incident began on Friday when the 17 operatives emerged from an underground tunnel in an IDF-controlled area of Rafah. Six were killed in immediate airstrikes, while five others were captured by troops from the Nahal Brigade. The remaining six fugitives were pursued over the weekend, with five neutralized in two separate clashes and the final suspect detained shortly before the military’s announcement.

All six captured operatives have been handed over to Israel’s Shin Bet security service for interrogation. Authorities stated that the detainees are expected to provide intelligence on Hamas tunnel networks, underground infrastructure, and operational activities in the Rafah region.

Eastern Rafah has been a key focus for Israeli military operations due to the extensive network of tunnels used by Hamas members to move undetected across Gaza. The IDF emphasized that its rapid response and sustained pursuit aim to prevent the operatives from regrouping or returning to Hamas-controlled areas.
