Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has expressed concern over the prevailing economic hardship in Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to Sowore, the increasing hunger and the significant infrastructural deficit across the country highlight the government’s failure to channel funds generated from the removal of fuel subsidies into meaningful economic investments.
Speaking on Channels TV on Thursday, the activist said:
“There is total mismanagement of the resources of the country, and I am not saying this because that is what people want to hear.
“It is because we were told, as of a year ago when they took over power, that the first decision they made was to remove the subsidy. They assured us that whatever savings were made from the subsidy removal would be used to manage the economy better, bring about prosperity, and promote development.
“However, none of these promises have materialized. I just came back from my state, Ondo State. The state of road infrastructure is the worst I have seen in a long time.
“I have not seen poverty like this in recent times.”
