My Landlord Set Me Up, He Called Immigration Officers To Arrest Me Because I’m a Foreigner – Austine

Popular Yoruba Nollywood actor Emmanuel Austine has revealed a shocking experience he faced while trying to escape the emotional turmoil of his failed marriage.

Austine, who left Nigeria to find peace in Botswana, found himself in an unexpected situation after his landlord reportedly set him up for arrest by immigration officers.

In a candid interview on Debbie Show TV’s YouTube channel, Austine explained that the stress and frustration from his marital crisis pushed him to leave the country.

“Due to the frustration my marriage was giving me and the emotional toll it was taking on me, I decided to leave Nigeria and travel out of the country. So, I traveled to Botswana, and upon arriving there, I rented an apartment from a man just to stay a few days and cool off my head from the marital crisis,” he said.

However, his plan to find peace was short-lived. The very next day, immigration officers showed up at his door.

“The next day, I saw some officers banging on my door, asking me to come out. When I came out, they asked for my passport, which I handed over to them. Then, I was arrested and handcuffed,” Austine recalled.

Surprisingly, the arrest turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The chief officer in charge of the police recognized Austine as a popular actor and immediately took a liking to him.

“The chief officer found out that I’m a popular actor in Nigeria, and since then, he liked me and even called me his first son. He told me to shoot all the movies I wanted to shoot freely,” Austine noted.

It was only after his arrest that Austine discovered the truth behind the incident.

“It was later, after my arrest, I discovered that my landlord was the one who set me up. He called immigration officers to arrest me because I’m a foreigner,” he revealed.

Despite the betrayal, Austine holds no grudges against his landlord.

He explained, “I’m not mad at him because if he didn’t report that a foreigner was in his apartment, he would be the one arrested instead.”
