“When I Entered, I Saw Them (Doctors) Watching YouTube Videos, My Wife Was Bleeding Profusely” – Husband

According to Punch Newspaper, a building contractor, Onyedikachi Eze, has accused a private hospital in Owerri, Imo State, of mishandling the medical care of his wife, Favour Paul, and their newborn baby, leading to their deaths. Eze alleged that the medical staff on duty neglected their responsibilities during a critical moment, contributing to the tragic outcome.

Eze recounted that his wife was admitted to the hospital for delivery, but complications arose during labor. As her condition worsened, he left to fix the generator to ensure there was electricity in the hospital. Upon returning to the theatre, he found his wife bleeding profusely while medical personnel were engaged in other activities. He stated that his younger brother and his wife’s younger brother were present and witnessed the situation.

According to Eze, the medical staff’s attention was not on his wife’s critical condition but instead diverted to watching videos on YouTube. He described how his wife’s worsening condition became evident, yet there was a delay in medical intervention. As the bleeding continued, concerns grew about the level of care being provided, prompting his wife’s younger brother to reach out to a human rights group for assistance.

Efforts to save both mother and child proved unsuccessful. The situation escalated as Eze and his relatives sought urgent action from the hospital staff. Despite their pleas, his wife and the baby did not survive. The family expressed frustration over the handling of the case, questioning the hospital’s commitment to professional standards and emergency response.

Following the incident, Eze and his family have demanded an investigation into the hospital’s conduct. They emphasized the need for accountability, citing medical negligence as a key factor in the deaths. The human rights group that was contacted has also called for a thorough probe into the hospital’s procedures and the actions of the medical personnel on duty that day.

The case has drawn attention from concerned members of the public, with some advocating for stricter enforcement of medical regulations in private hospitals. Discussions have emerged regarding the level of supervision and the ethical obligations of healthcare workers. The family continues to seek justice, insisting that similar incidents should be prevented in the future.

He said: “I joined them in the theatre after fixing the generator. When I entered, I saw them watching YouTube videos. My wife was bleeding profusely, and I could barely tolerate the sight. My younger brother and my wife’s younger brother were also there. It was my wife’s younger brother who later contacted a human rights group.”
