A recent video shared by Idoma TV on YouTube features a former Nigerian Anglican Bishop expressing concerns about the future of Christianity in the country. He warned that if current patterns continue, the Christian faith might eventually disappear from the region.
While delivering a speech at the burial of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Igu in Buru, the Bishop reflected on the diminishing influence of Christian values and missionary work. He expressed regret over the decline of religious impact in institutions such as St. Bat Nursery and Primary School in Wasasa Mission, which once played a significant role in nurturing committed Christians and missionaries.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, the Bishop remarked, “This is what we are losing today.” He also cautioned that historical records and various studies suggest a future where Christianity could lose its presence in the region. According to him, “Very soon, based on history, studies, or surveys, Christianity will disappear from this land, and Islam will take over.”
To support his argument, the Bishop referenced a publication titled “Next 100 Years” and encouraged those interested to delve deeper into its findings. Although he did not provide extensive details about the content, he emphasized that the publication’s warnings align with his concerns about the faith’s future.
In his concluding remarks, the Bishop called on Christians to take their religious commitments more seriously to prevent the predicted decline of Christianity.
His statements have ignited conversations about the challenges confronting Christianity in Nigeria, including changing societal values and the growth of religious pluralism.
