President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will today begin a two-nation diplomatic mission to Saint Lucia and Brazil, aimed at expanding Nigeria’s influence and strengthening strategic partnerships within the Global South.
According to a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president’s first stop will be Saint Lucia, where he is set to undertake a State Visit to promote deeper cultural and economic cooperation under the African Union’s Sixth Region framework—which recognizes the African diaspora as a key stakeholder in Africa’s global partnerships.
While in Saint Lucia, President Tinubu will hold high-level bilateral meetings with Governor-General Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles and Prime Minister Philip Pierre. He is also scheduled to deliver a special address to a joint session of the Saint Lucian Senate and House of Assembly at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom, Sandals Grande, Gros Islet.
Dignitaries expected at the event include Heads of Government of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), senior officials of the host country, diplomats, members of the Nigerian community, and the OECS Director-General, Dr. Didacus Jules.
A high-level working luncheon with OECS leaders will be one of the visit’s highlights, with key discussions focusing on economic partnerships, educational collaboration, infrastructure development, and cultural solidarity.
President Tinubu is also expected to visit the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries, where he will engage with students and academic leaders to promote enhanced academic and research ties between Nigeria and the Caribbean.
“This visit underscores Nigeria’s growing commitment to engaging Caribbean nations more meaningfully, not only through traditional diplomacy but through people-to-people and institutional linkages that promote sustainable development and cultural heritage,” the statement noted.
Following his Saint Lucia visit, the President will proceed to Brazil for further diplomatic engagements.
