The Presidency has firmly denied claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
According to a NewsVista reporter, the clarification was issued on Saturday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, following the spread of unverified reports suggesting a shake-up in the top ranks of the federal government.
In a statement titled “Akume remains SGF”, the Presidency described the viral news as entirely false and the work of what it called “agents of mischief.” Onanuga made it clear that no such decision has been taken by the President, who is currently away in Saint Lucia.
“There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not made any new appointments,” the statement read.
The Presidency urged Nigerians to ignore the misleading information, emphasizing that it was a product of fabricated narratives intended to cause unnecessary political tension.
This development comes just a day after the unexpected resignation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, who stepped down citing health concerns.
For now, the Presidency insists that Senator Akume remains firmly in his position, and no official communication has indicated otherwise.
