Atiku Blasts Tinubu: “From Giant of Africa to Diplomatic Ghost” Over Trump’s Snub
According to a NewsVista reporter, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has slammed President Bola Tinubu over Nigeria’s exclusion from a high-level meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump, calling it a symbol of Nigeria’s lost global influence.
On July 9, Trump is expected to host leaders from Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, and Senegal at the White House to discuss commercial opportunities in Africa. But Nigeria — once hailed as the continent’s diplomatic giant — didn’t make the list.
In a strongly worded statement issued through his aide Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the exclusion was “a scathing verdict” on Tinubu’s leadership and his handling of Nigeria’s role in ECOWAS.
“This is not an oversight. It’s a message,” Atiku declared. “Nigeria has become a diplomatic ghost. Our international relevance has evaporated under Tinubu.”
He also ridiculed Tinubu’s frequent overseas trips, pointing out that while Nigeria’s foreign direct investment is tanking, Tinubu’s inner circle is “sipping champagne in Saint Lucia.”
Atiku questioned the assumption that Gilbert Chagoury, a known donor to the Clinton Foundation, has influence in Trump’s circles, insisting: “He holds no keys to the White House.”
“This administration has squandered our legacy,” Atiku added. “From the Giant of Africa to an invisible voice on the world stage — Tinubu has finished the job.”
The comments have ignited political tension online, especially as global economic players like South Africa deepen U.S. trade ties while Nigeria is left watching from the sidelines.
