According to a NewsVista reporter, the Federal Government has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to throw out the no-case submission filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is facing terrorism-related charges.
During Friday’s hearing, government counsel Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN) argued that Kanu’s public broadcasts on Radio Biafra were not harmless expressions, but dangerous declarations aimed at breaking Nigeria apart.
Awomolo told Justice James Omotosho that Kanu openly incited violence and threatened national unity, even urging his followers to attack police officers and their families—allegedly leading to the deaths of over 170 security personnel.
“This wasn’t rhetoric,” Awomolo insisted. “It was a calculated move that endangered the nation’s peace and security.”
In response, Kanu’s family issued a strong denial, rejecting claims that he ever admitted to encouraging violence. Prince Emmanuel Kanu, speaking on behalf of the family, accused the media of twisting court proceedings and called for immediate correction of misleading reports.
He pointed to inconsistencies in the prosecution’s case, noting that a DSS witness admitted under cross-examination that several key details of the allegations were unclear or unsupported.
Meanwhile, the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, has also denied rumors that he mobilized youths to protest in Abuja in support of Kanu, calling such claims false and misleading.
As legal fireworks continue, all eyes remain on the Federal High Court for the next ruling in this high-stakes trial.
