Wike: I don’t think that in those two years; even you, you slept with your two eyes closed—Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has finally broken his silence on the tension that rocked the state’s politics for the past two years — and his words have sparked fresh reactions.

Speaking during a public event, Fubara stressed that Rivers State can only move forward when there is peace, warning that no meaningful development can happen in an atmosphere of chaos.

“We can’t develop in an environment of crisis. We can’t attract any project when there is trouble,” he said.

In a surprising move, the Governor also apologized to his deputy, saying the stormy political period caused a lot of misunderstandings.

“Let me, on behalf of the government, apologize to my deputy. The apology is because she said we were mocking her,” Fubara said.

Reflecting on the turbulent years, the Governor made a bold statement that drew attention:

“The people that were mocking you should realize that those two years were two years of trouble. I don’t think that in those two years, even you, you slept with your two eyes closed.”

Fubara’s comments appear to be a subtle jab at the Wike-led political era, hinting that the tension affected everyone, even those in power.

The Governor, however, called on all stakeholders to embrace peace and unity, assuring that his administration is focused on rebuilding Rivers State through stability and development.

He concluded by emphasizing that the new chapter for Rivers must be one of reconciliation — not rivalry.
