The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade.
Samuel Anyanwu, known to be a close ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, was suspended alongside Okechukwu Osuoha, the Deputy Legal Adviser, and Umaru Bature, the National Organising Secretary.
Their suspension follows a Federal High Court ruling on Friday that halted the party’s planned national convention.
PDP spokesperson Debo Ologunagba announced the decision at a press conference in Abuja on Saturday, stating that it came after an emergency NWC meeting.
According to him, the suspension will last for one month, during which the affected officials will step aside from their duties.
Ologunagba added that they have been referred to the party’s disciplinary committee for further action.
‘During this period of the suspension, they cease to function in their respective capacities,” he said.
He also revealed that Setonji Koshoedo, the Deputy National Secretary, will serve as Acting National Secretary, while the Deputy Legal Adviser will temporarily replace Ajibade.
The PDP has been struggling with internal divisions as it prepares for its national convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16, which has now been suspended by the court’s order.
KanyiDaily recalls that the Federal High Court in Abuja had stopped the PDP from holding its planned national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, which was scheduled for November 15 and 16.
