According to our report, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, has reacted sharply to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s move to label Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged persecution of Christians.
Speaking on Saturday, November 1, 2025, Akindele alleged that Trump’s decision was not purely about religion but politics. He claimed it followed Nigeria’s refusal to accept certain “unfavorable proposals” from the U.S. government and its growing independence in global affairs.
In his words:
“Donald Trump, Nigeria is not a country to mess with. We are multi-religious and multi-cultural. A country where the President is a Muslim and his wife is a Pastor should tell you more about our way of life. Do you want to rescue the First Lady from her husband?”
Akindele insisted that Nigeria’s diversity is its strength — not a weakness — and that religion has never divided the nation as outsiders often suggest. He maintained that insecurity in the country stems from terrorism and banditry, not faith-based violence.
He urged the international community to verify information before drawing conclusions that could damage Nigeria’s image globally.
