According to our report, Public Affairs Analyst Jide Ojo has clarified that the true motivation behind terrorism and banditry in Nigeria is not religious hatred but the pursuit of an Islamic caliphate.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Ojo explained that extremist groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP are driven by ideology and political ambition, not by any desire to target Christians or Muslims.
“The targets of bandits and terrorists have never been against any particular sect. Whether Christian or Muslim, their goal is simply to establish an Islamic caliphate,” he stated.
Ojo emphasized that both Christians and Muslims have suffered greatly under terrorism, with communities destroyed and families displaced across northern Nigeria. He warned that describing the crisis as a “Christian genocide” only distorts the reality and fuels division.
“Even many Muslims have been victims because these extremists see anyone who doesn’t share their belief as an infidel,” he added.
He urged Nigerians to unite against extremism instead of framing the conflict along religious lines, stressing the need for education, interfaith dialogue, and strong governance to end terrorism.
