Tinubu Rejects Trump’s Claim of Christian Persecution, Says Nigeria’s Diversity Is Its Strength

According to our report, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has firmly dismissed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent claim that Christians in Nigeria face “mass persecution.” Trump had placed Nigeria back on the list of “Countries of Particular Concern,” alleging widespread killings of Christians by radical groups.

But in a swift response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, described Trump’s comments as misleading and far from Nigeria’s reality. The government insisted that both Christians and Muslims in the country have lived and worshipped side by side for decades.

The statement emphasized that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity, not division. “Labeling Nigeria as a nation of religious persecution undermines our collective effort to build unity and peace,” the ministry said.

The Tinubu administration also reaffirmed its commitment to fighting terrorism, protecting all citizens, and deepening interfaith harmony across the country. It maintained that recent violent incidents were acts of criminality—not religious war—and that portraying them otherwise only distorts the truth.

Nigeria, according to officials, remains open to constructive dialogue with the United States but rejects any narrative that paints it as a nation divided by faith.
