According to our report, Aloy Ejimakor, a former lawyer to IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has said that the popular Monday sit-at-home in the Southeast is no longer driven by fear but by loyalty and affection for Kanu.
Speaking in a video shared by SYMFONI TV, Ejimakor explained that the once-compulsory protest has evolved into a voluntary act embraced by residents who choose to stay home out of solidarity with Kanu’s struggle.
He noted that the era of violence linked to the exercise is long gone, adding that those observing it now do so by conviction rather than compulsion. “Anybody sitting at home on Monday in the Southeast is doing so voluntarily, out of love for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” he said.
Ejimakor also recalled his earlier efforts to help end the practice when it caused economic hardship across the region but observed that the Monday observance has “taken on a life of its own.”
He stressed that since participation is now voluntary, it has become difficult for anyone to completely halt it.
