Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has urged Washington to place Nigeria back on its “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) list, citing what he called ongoing persecution of Christians.
In a post on X, Pompeo lamented that “the persecution of Nigerian Christians has never received the attention it deserves,” adding that the U.S. can “apply serious pressure on the Nigerian government” by restoring the designation.
Pompeo, who initiated Nigeria’s CPC status in 2020 under President Donald Trump, criticized its removal by the Biden administration in 2021.
