Dr. Bitrus Pogu, National President of the Middle Belt Forum, has revealed that Christian communities in Chibok LGA continue to suffer attacks, while nearby Muslim areas remain largely untouched.
In an interview with the Tribune, Pogu said the late Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, openly declared before his death that his group was waging a religious war. “We know what Shekau said before he died—he made it clear from the beginning that they are fighting a religious war. He didn’t hide it,” Pogu stated.
He added that Muslims who aided Christians or resisted Boko Haram’s extremist ideology were also threatened, showing that the group punishes anyone opposing its radical agenda.
Pogu’s comments highlight the religious and ideological motives behind Boko Haram’s attacks, with Christian communities bearing the brunt of the violence, while Muslims opposing the group also face retaliation.
