Suspected herdsmen k!ll two family members in Plateau community

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias have k!lled two men in an armed attack perpetrated by Terrorist elements called Fulani militants at Rachi, Bachi District, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

 

The victims, Dalyop Dangyang, a youth leader and Emmanuel Bature, all of Berom ethnic group, are said to be cousins. 

 

They will be laid to rest at the family compound in Rachi on Saturday, November 8, 2025. 

 

The incident occurred at about 8:00pm on Wednesday, November 5. 

 

The Executive Chairman of Riyom Local Government Council, Hon. Sati Bature Shuwa, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Damba Dang, “expressed deep pain and distress over yet another heart-wrenching attack, leading to the brutal k!lling of the two able-bodied and promising youths by suspected Fulani militia.”

 

Representing the Chairman on the condolence visit to the community on Friday, the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Gwong Gywa, decried the persistent and unprovoked killings that have continued to claim the lives of innocent citizens in Riyom. 

 

He emphasized that the administration of Hon. Sati Shuwa will not be deterred by the renewed wave of attacks across the locality. 

 

“Our mission remains clear, to secure our people and protect every community by all lawful means. We will not be cowed by these inhumane acts,” he said. 

 

“He urged the people not to lose hope despite the pain and trauma, but to remain determined and steadfast in defending their God-given heritage with unity and courage,” the statement read. 

 

“The Deputy Chairman, who was accompanied by the former Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly and the liaison officer to the Executive Governor of Plateau State , Rt. Hon. Timothy Dantong, expressed sadness that despite the peaceful and accommodating nature of the people of Bachi District, the Fulani militia have continued to visit the area with violence and bloodshed.

 

“He lamented the deliberate destruction of farmlands and loss of innocent lives, noting that the natives, despite their many provocations, have remained peaceful. He commended the youths for their restraint and called on them to continue to uphold peace even in the face of unbearable provocation.

 

“In his remarks, the Councilor representing Sharubutu Ward, Hon. Luka Samuel, appreciated the Council for the prompt visit and condolence. He reiterated the call for constant vigilance and lauded the courage and resilience of the youths who continue to stand firm in defense of their communities.

 

“The Deputy Chairman was accompanied by the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Mafeng Dahoss, the council secretary, Hon. Chief Abraham Tonjing, some Councilors, and other political appointees. 

 

“The delegation unanimously condemned the renewed k!llings and reaffirmed their collective resolve to defend the land and ensure justice for the victims.”
