Is It Not Strange That The G5 Said They Want To Support Tinubu? They Supported Him In 2023 -Okonkwo

Veteran Nollywood actor and former Labour Party spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, has raised concerns over the credibility and internal consistency of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He described recent actions by some of its governors as confusing and potentially damaging to the party’s future.

In an interview with SYMFONI TV, Okonkwo expressed surprise that the group of governors known as the G5—who opposed the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate and backed President Bola Tinubu—remain in the party. He noted that reports suggest the group, possibly now down to four members and led by Nyesom Wike, may support Tinubu again in the 2027 election.

“This is unusual,” Okonkwo said, highlighting the contradiction between their political intentions and continued membership in PDP. “They supported him in 2023, and now they say they will support him again in 2027, yet they refuse to leave PDP. Why are they still remaining in the party?” he added.

He argued that such inconsistencies reflect a deeper crisis within PDP, where personal interests often outweigh loyalty and ideology. According to Okonkwo, these contradictions could hinder PDP’s ability to reposition itself as a credible opposition party in Nigeria.

Despite these challenges, the actor remains cautiously optimistic. He believes PDP can regain viability if it addresses its internal divisions and clarifies its political direction.
