According to our report, Maj. Gen. Henry Ayoola (retd.), former Commander of the Special Task Force, has sounded the alarm over Nigeria’s worsening security, warning that gangs, terrorists, and bandits have “practically overrun several parts of this nation.” Speaking to Punch Newspaper on Sunday, November 9, 2025, he emphasized that the scale of the threat demands urgent and decisive internal action.
Ayoola cautioned against unilateral foreign intervention, noting that sovereignty must be respected and that any foreign military involvement without coordination could worsen instability. He stressed that Nigeria should lead efforts to curb insecurity while strategically engaging international partners.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, he asked: “Between resolving this once and for all, even with some collateral consequences, and allowing insecurity to continue endlessly, which is the better option?”
He concluded that strengthening domestic responses to terrorism, banditry, and violent crime is critical, with careful diplomacy ensuring national sovereignty is upheld.
