Hollywood icon Sally Kirkland, 84, enters Hospice care following Dementia diagnosis

Actress and Hollywood icon, Sally Kirkland has entered hospice care as she continues her battle with dementia. The 84-year-old Oscar nominee is currently in hospice at a hospital in Palm Springs, California, her representative, Michael Greene, confirmed on Sunday. Her close friend and former student, Cody Galloway, is reportedly by her side.

An update on a dedicated GoFundMe page for Kirkland confirmed the news, stating, “Thank you for all your love and support. Sally is grateful for your kindness and love. Sally is on hospice now and is resting comfortably. Please hold and send the light for Sally.”

The fundraising page was initially created in November 2024 to help the veteran actress manage a “significant health crisis.” The page detailed a difficult year for Kirkland, who suffered extensive injuries including fractured bones in her neck, right wrist, and left hip.

While recovering, she developed two separate life-threatening infections, requiring extensive hospitalizations and rehabilitation beyond what insurance would cover.

A more recent update last month noted that her health continued to struggle, including a fall that resulted in injuries to her ribs and foot. The “80 for Brady” actress is currently “receiving 24/7 care in a specialized facility, that is providing wonderful safety and care.” The GoFundMe campaign is continuing to raise funds to cover the gaps between her income and the high costs of her care, having raised over $58,900 toward its $65,000 goal.

Kirkland, a former member of Andy Warhol’s Factory circle, has enjoyed a prolific six-decade career, appearing in over 250 film and television projects. She is perhaps best known for starring in the 1987 comedy-drama Anna , which earned her an Academy Award nomination and won her a Golden Globe and an Independent Spirit Award.

Her notable films also include Bruce Almighty, Cold Feet, Best of the Best, and JFK. On the small screen, she has appeared in classics such as Charlie’s Angels, Roseanne, Murder, She Wrote, The Nanny, and Days of Our Lives.
