A notorious illegal mining operator, Iddrisu Zakari, commonly referred to as “Yaayaa,” has been apprehended during a sting operation in Bonsu after allegedly attempting to obstruct investigations into his activities.
Security officials have confirmed that the arrest took place on Monday, November 10, 2025, at approximately 6:06 p.m., following a prearranged meeting between Zakari and NAIMOS operatives, who had been surveilling him for several weeks.
This incident occurred after he made attempts to negotiate the release of his arrested associates and halt the ongoing investigations into his operations.
Sources indicate that Zakari sought to sway the inquiry into his galamsey activities within the Osino Residential Area while also pursuing the release of his detained associates.
The arrest follows a raid conducted by NAIMOS on one of Zakari’s mining sites on November 7, which resulted in the detention of 32 Nigerien nationals and four Ghanaian guards armed with machetes.
Officials report that Zakari has since been transferred to the Ghana Police Service to aid in further investigations.
