Bandits will force you to go and farm for them, and if you Don’t, They’ll take your harvest —Dachomo

Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Plateau State, has described the harsh reality faced by residents of rural communities under the control of armed groups in Northern Nigeria.

In an interview with News Central TV, Dachomo explained that bandits have turned villages into centers of forced labor. “They will force you to go and farm for them, and if you don’t, they’ll take your harvest,” he said, highlighting how attackers enslave villagers and seize both their land and produce.

According to the cleric, many residents are compelled to work their own farmlands under threat, only for their crops to be taken by armed men. “You work with fear. Every day, you know the food you grow isn’t yours,” he said, describing the system as a “modern-day slavery” that leaves families living in constant terror.

Reverend Dachomo also noted the particularly severe impact on women and children, who often witness the exploitation helplessly. He stressed that the forced farming scheme is part of a broader strategy to dominate and control local communities, with victims frequently ignored when reporting these abuses.

The cleric called for urgent intervention from authorities and civil society to protect affected communities and restore justice. Full reports and additional updates on the situation are available on Newshost Buzz.
