Six people have been confirmed dead following a stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, during a military recruitment exercise that was in progress.
Reports suggest that thousands of young Ghanaians gathered at the stadium in a fervent attempt to secure enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The crowd, combined with intense pushing at the entry points, resulted in chaos that led to numerous injuries and fatalities, according to reports.
The deceased persons have been taken to the mortuary at the 37 Military Hospital, while several others are currently receiving emergency care in the facility’s casualty ward.
Security personnel have since secured the area, with the military blocking all major access routes leading to El-Wak Stadium to maintain order and assist in rescue operations.
