The Super Eagles of Nigeria squad has vowed not to play against Gabon in Thursday’s 2026 World Cup playoffs if their demands are not met.
The players were supposed to train on Tuesday, November 11, for Thursday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff against Gabon, but decided to boycott training, over unpaid allowances for several years.
The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, is yet to release an official statement.
According to Shooting Stars media officer, Adepoji Tobi Samuel, he said the players have vowed they won’t play until the NFF clears all backlog of debts.
He wrote on X: “8:15am:
“There’s no official statement from the NFF.
“The official media group of the Super Eagles has been calm, no information since yesterday.
“Before bedtime yesterday, the players have vowed they won’t play until the NFF cleared all backlog of debts.
“The National Sports Commission (NSC) Executives have been in contact with the leaders of the Super Eagles.
“The NSC told me that they have released further funds for the NFF yesterday night.
“The NSC also told me that they have released monies due for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers to the NFF.
“NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau is expected to meet with the players this morning.
“I’m hopeful there will solution and compromise from both sides when they meet this morning.”’

A win will secure Nigeria a spot in the final playoff against either Cameroon or DR Congo.
