Boko Haram Targets Christians, But Also Attacks Muslims Who Reject Their Extremist Ideology- Adamu

Dr. Kabir Adamu, CEO of Beacon Security and Intelligence Limited, has highlighted that Boko Haram’s attacks in Nigeria are not exclusively aimed at Christians, but also affect Muslims who reject the group’s extremist ideology.

In a recent interview with Arise News, Dr. Adamu explained that his organization’s latest security assessment examined violent incidents across the country, considering both location and religious affiliation. The findings revealed that many attacks are driven by ideological or political motives rather than religion alone.

“Boko Haram sometimes targets Christians, but they also attack Muslims who do not share their ideology,” he said, emphasizing that the group views any individual or community opposing its extremist beliefs as an enemy. This, he added, explains why mosques and Islamic clerics have also been targeted in recent years.

Dr. Adamu called for a coordinated national counterterrorism strategy focused on addressing ideological extremism, improving intelligence gathering, and strengthening interfaith collaboration to rebuild trust and unity among Nigerians.
