Atiku Isa, a factional president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has raised concerns about potential electoral disruptions in the Southeast in light of the ongoing trials of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
Speaking in a recent video, Isa suggested that if the judicial process surrounding Kanu does not meet public expectations, residents in the Southeast might choose to abstain from participating in the 2027 presidential election. He stated, “There might be no election in the Southeast; people will be disappointed, because when people are fed up, they no longer fear anything.”
The comments come amid protests led by human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, calling for the unconditional release of Kanu. Isa’s warning underscores growing political tension and the possibility of civil disobedience if perceived injustices are not addressed.
The statement has sparked debate online about the role of civic engagement and the impact of political dissatisfaction on voter turnout in the region.
