Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has called on residents to observe a statewide day of fasting and prayers in response to renewed Boko Haram attacks across the North-East. The announcement was made during a broadcast on Channels Television on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
Addressing citizens, Governor Zulum reflected on the lasting impact of the insurgency, which has affected every segment of society over the past 15 years, displacing millions and disrupting socio-economic activities across all 27 local government areas. He praised the resilience of the people and credited unity and support for security forces for helping the state overcome the darkest periods of the conflict.
“By the will of God, we were able to overcome those harrowing days of insurgency by uniting as one, setting aside differences of ethnicity, religion, and sectionalism,” Zulum said. He commended residents for their steadfastness, prayer, and continued support for troops, hunters, and vigilante groups.
Declaring Monday, 24th November 2025, as a statewide day of fasting and prayer, Zulum urged all residents, regardless of faith, to join in spiritual reflection for lasting peace and prosperity in Borno State and Nigeria. He also encouraged prayers for divine protection against evil and enemies of peace.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies, strengthening community vigilance, and pursuing dialogue where possible, while maintaining the safety and integrity of the state. He concluded: “Thank you. Long live Borno State. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
