A man from Nakuru, identified as John, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison following an accusation of attempted theft, which he insists was false. His case highlights the challenges faced by individuals who cannot afford legal representation and the importance of due process.
John, who works in roofing, explained that he had been referred to a client by a friend and was temporarily accommodated at her home while working on a project. According to him, an incident occurred that led to a confrontation with the homeowner, after which she accused him of theft. Neighbours were reportedly involved in the escalation, and John says he received some physical harm before police arrived.
Despite his insistence of innocence, no formal investigation was conducted, and John could not afford legal representation to defend himself. He was ultimately sentenced to a decade in prison. John’s experience has drawn attention to the need for fair legal procedures and the protection of workers from false accusations.
