Former Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has expressed strong confidence in the capability of the Nigerian Armed Forces, stating that the military has the strength and expertise to secure not just Nigeria but the entire West African sub-region—if given the right support.
In a video shared by Viable TV, Adebayo said:
“The Nigerian armed forces, the way I know them, they can protect the whole of West Africa if you let them do it.”
He emphasized that the military’s efficiency depends heavily on proper leadership, adequate funding, and strategic direction from the government. According to him, when empowered without political interference, the Nigerian military can effectively confront terrorism, insurgency, and cross-border threats.
Adebayo noted that internal political and administrative bottlenecks often hinder the armed forces from reaching their full potential. He urged the government to place national security above politics by equipping the military and granting them the operational freedom needed to deliver results.
He added that strengthening the armed forces is not only crucial for Nigeria’s stability but also essential for the peace and security of the entire West African region. His remarks come at a time when conversations around security reforms and the government’s handling of nationwide threats remain intense.
