Troops of the North East Joint Task Force under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully repelled Boko Haram militants who attacked a community in Magumeri Local Government Area, Borno State, late Saturday night. Residents reported widespread property destruction, but no lives were lost during the assault.
According to Daily Trust, the insurgents infiltrated the town under cover of darkness, setting residential houses and vehicles—including some belonging to Civilian Joint Task Force members—on fire. Executive Chairman of Magumeri, Abubakar Abdulkadir Yaro, explained that the attackers intended to target both residents and security formations but were met with a swift and coordinated response from OPHK troops.
“The terrorists fled out of the town at about 3 a.m. on Sunday after they were overwhelmed,” Yaro said. “Unfortunately, they set ablaze residential houses and other property, but no life was lost.” The confrontation lasted several hours before the militants retreated.
Security forces continued patrols in the community on Sunday to prevent a possible return or regrouping of the assailants. Residents were also urged to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities.
The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region, but officials noted that the rapid response by OPHK troops reassured the community of their commitment to protecting vulnerable populations.
