Kaduna-based Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has called on the Nigerian government to rely on domestic resources to safeguard all citizens, including herders, amid growing insecurity in northern states. He warned that foreign military involvement could worsen the situation rather than resolve it.
In a Facebook post shared on Sunday, November 23, 2025, Gumi addressed recent mass abductions in Kebbi and Niger states, highlighting the dangers of inviting international forces into Nigeria’s security matters. According to him, external intervention could embolden armed groups and complicate existing challenges.
He stressed that the most effective solution is for Nigeria to use its own resources to promote education, development, and protection for all its citizens. “The only option left is to use our national resources equitably to educate, develop and protect all Nigerians, herdsmen included,” Gumi stated.
