Two women were reportedly executed by fighters of a Boko Haram faction loyal to Ali Ngulde in the Mandara Mountain area of Gwoza Local Government, Borno State. The insurgents accused the victims of engaging in idolatry after allegedly finding charms in their possession.
Security expert Zagazola Makama confirmed the development, explaining that the women were apprehended during a search of the faction’s settlements. The insurgents claimed the charms (layu) indicated the women had committed shirk, or idolatry.
According to the report, the women were subjected to a makeshift trial before being taken to a secluded area of the mountains and executed. The execution reportedly took place publicly in the presence of other fighters and local residents as a method to enforce fear and compliance with the faction’s doctrines.
The incident underscores the continuing threat posed by extremist groups in northeastern Nigeria and highlights the risks faced by civilians in territories under insurgent control.
