A man identified as Joseph from Nyahururu has narrated how life took a difficult turn after an accident left him unable to work, leading to the breakdown of his marriage and an encounter that made him fear for his dignity and the wellbeing of his children.
Joseph grew up in Nyahururu before moving to Naivasha for work as a delivery man. While there, he fell in love and later married. The couple was blessed with three children, and for years their home remained peaceful. However, Joseph was involved in a serious accident that left one of his legs fractured, forcing him to stop working temporarily.
With Joseph unable to provide, his wife took up the responsibility of buying food and paying rent. But within a month, her behaviour changed drastically. According to him, she began coming home late and often reacted harshly when asked about her whereabouts. One day, she left home and did not return for two days. When Joseph called, she informed him that she had moved on and remarried. His in-laws declined to intervene, leaving him to face the situation alone.
Struggling to feed his children, Joseph relied on the kindness of neighbours. During this period, a woman who lived in a nearby mansion began offering them meals and occasional financial help. One day, she invited Joseph and his children into her home for a special meal, an act he initially saw as genuine compassion.
However, when the woman asked her househelp to step out with the children, Joseph says she attempted to take advantage of his vulnerable situation while promising financial support. Feeling uncomfortable, he asked for permission to leave and return later. She gave him some money and food items, but instead of going back, Joseph quietly moved to another neighbourhood to protect himself and his children.
He now focuses on rebuilding his life while caring for his family.
