Grace from Thika has opened up about the traumatic experiences that forced her to leave her husband and raise her children alone. She says the challenges have been immense, but she remains determined to provide for her family.
Grace grew up in Meru and, despite performing well in school, was unable to continue past primary level due to financial difficulties. She later moved to Thika, where she worked as a house manager in several homes. At 17, she met a man who later married her, and the couple was blessed with twins.
The family initially seemed happy, but when the twins were around eight months old, one of the children showed developmental challenges. According to Grace, her husband reacted harshly, insisting that the child was a curse and pressuring her to take drastic measures. When she refused, he claimed he was not the father and forced her out of the home.
Grace returned to her parents’ home, but she says she faced further rejection. Left to care for her twins alone, she struggles to provide basic needs and is appealing to well-wishers and the community for support.
Her story highlights the difficulties faced by single mothers raising children with special needs, and the need for compassion and assistance from society.
