According to a report by Daily Post, on Tuesday November 25, 2025, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has stated that rising insecurity in Nigeria has made him rethink his past views on former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Galadima said he was once one of Jonathan’s strongest critics but now, he believes Jonathan managed national security better than many leaders who came after him.
He recalled that before the 2015 general elections, Jonathan postponed the polls for six weeks.
This decision was taken to address increasing insecurity across the country.
According to Galadima, Jonathan brought in mercenaries during that period.
The move, he said, helped stabilize the nation and ensured that elections were held in every polling unit nationwide.
Galadima argued that today’s government would act differently in a similar situation.
He claimed the current administration might allow insecurity to worsen to influence election results.
He said Jonathan’s actions showed a level of humane leadership and respect for democracy.
He stated that Jonathan knew a free and fair election could cost him a second term. Despite this, he chose to act for the good of the nation.
Galadima described Jonathan as an educated and thoughtful leader who prioritized the welfare of citizens over political gain.
Galadima said his past criticisms of Jonathan now seem unfair.
He expressed surprise at realizing Jonathan’s leadership was more effective and humane than he had imagined.
“I spoke to journalists and I said something. Me that speak to you seated here was one of the greatest critics of Jonathan’s presidency. The way at that time he handled matters, I didn’t know that God will disgrace me to show me that Jonathan was even a saint and a better administrator than those that follow him,” he said.
