In a recent interview on Symfoni TV, South-South Zonal Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), George Turnah, offered an extensive assessment of the mounting internal crisis within the party, insisting that many of the accusations directed at Nyesom Wike are misplaced and politically convenient. According to Turnah, “After 8 and 9 and this party gets into serious problem, they will start calling Wike,” yet, he argued, the former Rivers State governor is not responsible for the series of decisions that led the PDP into its current turmoil.
Turnah strongly dismissed claims that Wike is behind the disobedience of court judgments, the refusal to sell nomination forms, failure to conduct congresses, the recognition of what he described as “caretaker structures,” or the presentation of expelled members as party leaders. He maintained that none of these actions can be traced to Wike, emphasizing that the consequences of impunity are now merely being blamed on him because he refuses to be silent.
The PDP chieftain traced the party’s problems to longstanding structural fractures, internal conspiracies, and a tradition of power blocs struggling for dominance. He argued that what is playing out today is not unusual in political organizations where interests collide, but he cautioned that the National Working Committee (NWC) must act as a neutral umpire if the party hopes to stabilize.
Turnah further accused some governors of hijacking the party’s internal processes over time, thereby weakening discipline and undermining the authority of national chairmen. He described this pattern as a “dangerous legacy” that has fueled the current succession battles.
Despite the challenges, Turnah maintained that this period remains one of the most important moments for loyal PDP members, insisting that the party can rebuild if fairness and constitutionality prevail.
