A Kenyan church founder, Apostle Margaret, has shared the emotional story of how her marriage suddenly collapsed on the same day her dowry was paid, despite years of living together as husband and wife.
In her account, Margaret said she met her husband in 2008, and after a few months of dating, they began living as a couple. Four years later, both families agreed to formalise their union with a traditional dowry ceremony. The event began smoothly, and her in-laws accompanied her husband to present the dowry as required.
According to her, everything changed moments after the handover. She explained that when her husband stepped out of the house where the money had been presented, he abruptly told her the relationship was over. Believing it was a misunderstanding, she followed him home—only to find him moving into a separate bedroom and refusing to discuss what had happened.
Margaret said her situation worsened a month later when her hands suddenly began to swell, leaving her unable to work. Her husband eventually packed his belongings and left the marriage entirely. She returned to her parents, who advised her to undergo cleansing rites involving the slaughtering of two goats. She said her health improved afterward, and years later she was able to remarry in a church ceremony.
