Victoria, a woman from Embu County, has recounted the painful experience of being denied conjugal rights and enduring years of marital abuse. She revealed how her husband once gave her money and told her to seek another man to satisfy her needs.
Born and raised in Embu, Victoria met her future husband while attending college. The couple married without her parents’ consent, which caused tension with her family. Over the years, they had three children, but Victoria’s marriage was marked by physical abuse and strict control, including restrictions on socializing with neighbors.
Her husband purchased a car but routinely refused to allow her to use it, even when they were traveling in the same direction. He frequently returned home late at night, and any attempt at intimacy was met with aggression. On one occasion, he handed her 10,000 shillings and told her to sleep with another man for three days to “stop disturbing him.”
Faced with these repeated abuses, Victoria gathered her belongings, including 50,000 shillings from the house, and relocated with her children to the nearest town. There, she rented a home and started a business to provide for her family and regain independence.
