A woman from the Korogocho slum in Nairobi has opened up about the hardships she endured growing up in a challenging environment, revealing how poverty and family difficulties shaped her early life. She is now appealing for opportunities that would allow her to support and educate her children.
According to her account, she is the second of six children and was raised by a single mother. She explains that her upbringing was difficult, as her mother struggled with alcohol and worked long hours, leaving her largely to fend for herself. These circumstances exposed her to a traumatic environment that limited her access to education.
She recalls that from a young age she witnessed troubling situations at home, which created lasting emotional challenges. Despite these hardships, she tried to build her own life, marrying multiple times, although she says her marriages did not last.
Now a mother of four, she is determined to give her children a better upbringing than she experienced. She lives hand-to-mouth and is asking for support, including work opportunities, to help provide for her family and secure her children’s education.
