Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has once again voiced strong criticism of Nigeria’s current leadership, expressing deep concern over the country’s fragile state. Speaking in an interview on Arise Television, the former vice-presidential candidate warned that the nation is facing serious security and governance challenges that the government has yet to address effectively.
Baba-Ahmed described the recent declaration of a security state of emergency as insufficient, calling it a weak response to a crisis that requires decisive and strategic action. He noted that many of the difficulties confronting Nigerians today could have been mitigated if better choices had been made before the administration took office.
Reflecting on the period leading up to the current government, Baba-Ahmed said attempts by him and others to prevent what he views as a risky political outcome were hindered by fear and hesitation. He argued that those missed opportunities contributed to the country’s current predicament.
Beyond politicians, he also challenged the judiciary, armed forces, and citizens to consider their roles in allowing an unprepared leadership to assume power. According to him, the situation has reached a stage where discussions about the Tinubu–Shettima ticket are no longer meaningful. “I’m not talking about Tinubu Shettima anymore, because they don’t even know what they are talking about,” he said, stressing that Nigeria’s problems are too serious for careless governance.
