Kano Govt Demands Probe, Arrest of Ganduje Over “Reckless, Inciting” Security Remarks

The Kano State Executive Council has called for the immediate investigation and arrest of former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, accusing him of making statements that could threaten public peace and undermine ongoing security operations in the state.

The call followed extensive discussions at the Council’s 34th Executive Meeting on Thursday at the Government House, Kano, where members reviewed recent comments attributed to Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin. Both had alleged that Kano “was sliding into banditry” and claimed the state government planned to recruit 12,000 personnel for a controversial religious security outfit, Khairul Nas.

Addressing journalists on Friday, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya described the remarks as dangerous, irresponsible, and capable of heightening public anxiety. He noted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration has been working closely with federal authorities to strengthen intelligence and security deployments across the state.

“The statements made by the former governor were not only inciting but also reckless,” Waiya said, warning that the comments could erode public confidence in established security structures. Officials also expressed concern that less than 48 hours after the remarks, suspected bandits reportedly infiltrated some border communities, raising questions about potential connections.

The Council emphasized that the Kano State Government remains committed to maintaining stability, collaborating with security agencies, and supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to combat criminal networks. Waiya reiterated that attempts to create unauthorized security outfits or militias would not be tolerated. “No individual, regardless of status, will be allowed to threaten the peace of Kano State,” he declared.
