Public Affairs Analyst Dr. Charles Oludare Marindoti has highlighted the growing insecurity across Nigeria, citing a recent kidnapping case that underscores how ordinary citizens remain vulnerable, according to News Central TV.
Dr. Marindoti recounted that a man returning from his son’s convocation in Kogi State was abducted, and the family was forced to pay a ransom for his release. “This is one of many troubling examples showing how citizens are at risk even during routine travel,” he said, emphasizing the unpredictability of such crimes.
He explained that incidents like this reflect a breakdown in local security structures and a pressing need to rethink internal safety frameworks. Many communities lack the protection necessary to prevent kidnappings, leaving families to rely on ransom payments rather than timely law enforcement intervention.
The analyst noted that the rising frequency of abductions imposes not only a security concern but also a social and economic burden on already struggling families. He stressed that the inability of security agencies to respond promptly often leaves residents feeling exposed and abandoned.
Dr. Marindoti called on the government to invest in effective community policing and rebuild public trust in security institutions, warning that without stronger local response systems, similar incidents will continue to escalate fear and instability nationwide.
