Kano Govt Accuses Former Governor Ganduje of Plot to Recruit 12,000 Illegal Islamic Police Personnel

In a statement reported by The Sun Nigeria on Saturday, November 29, 2025, Kano State’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said intelligence indicated that Ganduje had plans to establish a group called Khairui Nas, described as an unauthorized security formation. The government expressed concern that the group could undermine existing security measures and destabilize the state’s fragile security architecture.

Waiya also criticised public remarks by Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin regarding Kano’s security situation. The commissioner claimed their statements were misleading and had the potential to heighten public anxiety, noting that suspected bandits attacked certain border communities shortly after the comments were made.

“The Council extensively reviewed the provocative comments attributed to the former governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, in which they suggested that Kano is exposed to bandit activities,” Waiya said. “The Council observed that these remarks were irresponsible and capable of undermining ongoing security operations undertaken by both the state government and the Federal Government.”

The commissioner thanked the Federal Government and security agencies for their continued support in safeguarding the state and appealed to political figures to avoid statements that could escalate tensions or compromise ongoing security initiatives.
