Omoyele Sowore, 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has shared his perspective on the current state of Nigeria’s opposition parties. Speaking recently, he suggested that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has effectively “died” in Oyo State, while the status of the Labour Party (LP) remains uncertain.
According to Sowore, defections of prominent members to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have weakened opposition parties across the country. “It was murdered in Oyo State and was buried in the office of the minister of the FCT. The Labour Party, which promised in 2023, I don’t know if it’s dead or in the hospital,” he said in a recent video addressing the political landscape.
The AAC presidential candidate’s remarks highlight growing concerns over party cohesion and the challenges facing Nigeria’s opposition in maintaining influence amid defections and internal disagreements.
