A resident of Rafi Local Government Area in Niger State has shared a harrowing account of night-time raids by armed groups, highlighting the escalating insecurity in the region. According to a Vanguard report on Sunday, November 30, 2025, criminal gangs, Mahmuda factions, and armed herders continue to terrorize local communities.
The resident explained that attackers often arrive on motorcycles under the cover of darkness, abducting villagers and looting livestock. “They come suddenly at night, take people and animals. We cannot farm or go to the market safely. Army comes, they disappear into the forest,” the resident said.
Despite military interventions, including airstrikes and ground patrols, the assailants reportedly vanish into nearby forests before security forces can respond, only to return days later. This pattern has left residents in constant fear, disrupting farming, trading, and daily life.
The attacks underscore broader challenges for Niger State authorities in protecting rural communities and addressing the persistent threat from armed groups.
