Former Edo Commissioner for Digital Economy, Science and Technology, Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor, has expressed deep concern over the rising insecurity in Edo State, saying the government has not shown the urgency needed to protect citizens. His remarks, shared during an interview on Arise News, come at a time when residents are reporting more cases of kidnappings, armed robbery, and general fear across rural and semi-urban communities.
According to Ifaluyi-Isibor, the state government’s priorities appear misaligned with the realities facing ordinary people. He argued that while many residents live in fear of daily attacks, the administration seems more preoccupied with political engagements. He stated that “the governor is focused on the re-election of President Tinubu while Edo people are languishing in agony and anguish daily,” describing this as a dangerous neglect of responsibility.
The former commissioner noted that the spike in abductions has forced families to negotiate directly with armed criminals, often without any institutional protection or support. He added that public confidence in the state’s security structure has weakened, with many residents feeling exposed due to inadequate coordination and limited investment in security systems.
Ifaluyi-Isibor urged the Edo State Government to urgently reset its priorities and commit to stronger, more proactive measures. He stressed that safeguarding lives is the most fundamental duty of any administration and should take precedence over political distractions, especially at a time of widespread insecurity.
