Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, has announced that troops have successfully taken over strategic forest corridors in Taraba State and neighbouring Benue border communities. He made this known during an interview on Channels Television, explaining that the operation is part of a strengthened security push to curb criminal activity in the region.
According to General Uwa, the army has adopted a more direct strategy that involves physically occupying remote forest areas long exploited by armed groups. By establishing a forward operating base deep inside these terrains, troops can respond faster to threats, block escape routes, and maintain pressure on criminals who previously used the forests as safe havens.
He added that the move complements ongoing clearance and reconnaissance missions across the Taraba–Benue axis. The aim, he said, is to disrupt activities that have affected farming, restricted movement, and impacted economic activities in several rural communities.
While addressing soldiers at the newly established base, General Uwa emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong and continuous presence to prevent criminal elements from returning. Residents in nearby communities have expressed optimism that the expanded military occupation will help reduce attacks and improve safety.
General Uwa reassured citizens that the operation will remain active, stressing that the ultimate goal is to secure rural settlements, stabilize the corridor, and ensure lasting peace.
